Hot Air Ballooning
You might not have thought to go hot air ballooning in Africa! But while you’re in Namibia, take adavntage of the chance to take a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the Namib Desert. The best time to do this is at dawn, so that you can watch the sun rise over the sand dunes. You’ll never see a sight like this again in your life. Afterwards, enjoy a lavish champagne breakfast while you recover from the excitement of your sunrise balloon ride.
See Wild Horses
No one’s exactly sure where these beautiful wild horses come from, but you’ll find them galloping in the deserts of Garub pan. Drive down the B2 on the way to Luderitz, and you’ll be likely to spot the herd stopping to drink at the waterhole found on the right side. You’ll also see signs on this road pointing to wild horse lookout points. Don’t forget your camera!
Hot Springs
You might not think to go soak in hot springs in a country that is already so warm, but it’s a great experience and so relaxing! Drive to the Fish River Canyon around sunset and take in the gorgeous views. Then head to the Ais-Ais camp where you’ll find the exquisite natural hot springs ready for you to relax and take in the scenery while soothing your muscles!
Try the Apple Pie in Solitaire
This might seem like a very specific thing to do, but trust us, it’s worth it. You’ll find a roadside stop in Solitaire with a gas station, mini market, campsite and other small accommodations, and then you’ll see the bakery. Go in this bakery and you’ll meet the legendary Moose, who serves some of the best and most famous apple pie around.
The Red Dunes of Namib
Most visitors come to Namibia to see the famous red sand dunes in the desert of Namib. It can be very touristy here but if you come in the middle of the day, there will be less people around (and it will also be hotter.) Check out Dead Vlei, a gorgeous cracked mud plain from which you can get astonishing views of the surrounding scenery.
Go on Safari
Safaris in Namibia are one of the most popular and highly anticipated activities of any visitor coming to this country. On safari, you’ll get the chance to see so many animals in their natural habitats, a great contrast to the zoos that most tourists are used to from home. Take in their majestic beauty but be sure to respect these creatures by not shouting or acting rowdy.
